ATONEMENT

CAPSTONE: I often try to think of the pain that was suffered by my Savior in the Garden.  The anguish of his aches and hurt.  I cannot imagine what that must have been like for Him, and I thank Him every day when I pray.  It makes my decisions easier to make, knowing that I need to pay him back for his sacrifice.  It helps me choose the right, however cliché’ that may sound, but it really does.  I don’t want to let Him down.   Sometimes it’s hard for me to not judge another because of their misdeeds, but I need to remember that they will also be forgiven, because of the atonement.  They are no different than me, even though are sins are, we both need that cleansing freedom.  And that’s what it is, freedom.  Freedom from the pains that sins cause.  That’s the pain that He took for us.  I pray that I can continue to live my life in a way that I will not have the burden of sin, but I know that I will fall, even a little, but when I do I can pray for forgiveness and pick myself back up.  The miracle of living a clean pure life is because of the atonement. -becki johnson

1.        “There is no greater expression of love than the heroic Atonement performed by the Son of God. Were it not for the plan of our Heavenly Father, established before the world began, in a very real sense, all mankind—past, present, and future—would have been left without the hope of eternal progression.”
-M. Russell Ballard, “The Atonement And The Value Of One Soul,”April 2004 General Conference  https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2004/04/the-atonement-and-the-value-of-one-soul?lang=eng

2.        “If you have made no mistakes, then you do not need the Atonement. If you have made mistakes, and all of us have, whether minor or serious, then you have an enormous need to find out how they can be erased so that you are no longer in darkness.”
-Boyd K. Packer, “The Atonement,”October 2012 General Conference  https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2012/10/the-atonement?lang=eng

3.        “I believe that no matter how diligently you try, you cannot with your human mind fully comprehend the eternal significance of the Atonement nor fully understand how it was accomplished. We can only appreciate in the smallest measure what it cost the Savior in pain, anguish, and suffering or how difficult it was for our Father in Heaven to see His Son experience the incomparable challenge of His Atonement.”
-Richard G. Scott, “The Atonement Can Secure Your Peace And Happiness,” October 2006 General Conference https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2006/10/the-atonement-can-secure-your-peace-and-happiness?lang=eng

4.        “The lesson we can learn is that when a loved one has died and sorrow and despair have taken over our hearts, we can have solace knowing the joy that will come when our loved ones are reunited and continue their eternal progression because of the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ.”
-Robert D. Hales, “Lessons From The Atonement That Help Us Endure To The End,” October 1985 General Conference https://www.lds.org/general-conference/1985/10/lessons-from-the-atonement-that-help-us-to-endure-to-the-end?lang=eng

5.        “The Atonement has practical, personal, everyday value; apply it in your life. It can be activated with so simple a beginning as prayer. You will not thereafter be free from trouble and mistakes but can erase the guilt through repentance and be at peace.”
-Boyd K. Packer, “The Touch Of The Master’s Hand,”April 2001 General Conference  https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2001/04/the-touch-of-the-masters-hand?lang=eng

6.        “You should learn while you are young that while the Atonement of Christ applies to humanity in general, the influence of it is individual, very personal, and very useful.”
-Boyd K. Packer, “Washed Clean,” April 1997 General Conference https://www.lds.org/general-conference/1997/04/washed-clean?lang=eng

7.        “Christ came to save us. If we have taken a wrong course, the Atonement of Jesus Christ can give us the assurance that sin is not a point of no return. A safe return is possible if we will follow God’s plan for our salvation.”
-Dieter F. Uchtdorf, “Point Of Safe Return,” April 2007 General Conference https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2007/04/point-of-safe-return?lang=eng

8.        “The twilight of the dispensation of the fulness of times, when Lucifer is working overtime to jeopardize our journey home and to separate us from the Savior’s atoning power, the only answer for any of us is Jesus Christ.”
-Sheri L. Dew, “Our Only Chance,” April 1999 General Conference https://www.lds.org/general-conference/1999/04/our-only-chance?lang=eng

9.        “If your faith and prayers and the power of the priesthood do not heal you from an affliction, the power of the Atonement will surely give you the strength to bear the burden.”
-Dallin H. Oaks, “He Heals The Heavy Laden,” October 2006 General Conference https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2006/10/he-heals-the-heavy-laden?lang=eng

10.    “The gospel of Jesus Christ encompasses much more than avoiding, overcoming, and being cleansed from sin and the bad influences in our lives; it also essentially entails doing good, being good, and becoming better.”
-David A. Bednar, “Clean Hands And A Pure Heart,” October 2007 General Conference https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2007/10/clean-hands-and-a-pure-heart?lang=eng
